Feeling a little skeptical about VR? You’re not alone! While the INNOVATIV team are seasoned VR veterans, some of our friends have been on the fence about the technology. Some have never even tried it out before! Being the kind souls we are, we invited them to the office to give them a taste of VR and see what they had to say about their experience.

Yuko, HR Consultant

App tried: ‘Dino Land VR – Virtual Tour
Before
“I’m really into art and new media, and VR seems really cool. I actually tried it once before, it was a horror game – it was really realistic and I freaked out! I was thinking about buying a headset for myself.”

Yuko

After
“Oh wow! That was super cool. It was really immersive, and felt like I was actually walking around with dinosaurs. The only thing is, I wish there were better controls so I could run away or something. In all, this makes me want my own even more. Definitely recommended!”

Pierre, Software Engineer

App tried: ‘Alien Attack VR
Before
“I’m a gamer, but I only tried VR once about five years ago and I wasn’t really impressed. It just wasn’t very immersive, and the graphics were pretty bad! I could definitely see the potential in it though, but it put me off trying it again until the technology got better.”

Pierre

After
“That was pretty fun! I died a couple of times, but I kept wanting to try again. Being able to interact and not just look around was a big plus, too. I’d recommend this to friends or my girlfriend to try out, but one thing I’m worried about is the technology. Probably in a year or so, the phone will become obsolete because a new one with better graphics and processor will be released. But it’s probably fun to try once or twice for now.”

Yukie, Manager

App tried: ‘VR Roller Coaster
Before
“I’ve tried VR only once before, it was at a kind of theme park in Tokyo. It was a racing game and was interesting, but I felt sick pretty quickly. After that, I didn’t really think too much about buying my own headset because I was worried about the possible health risks.”

Yukie

After
“Oh, that was fun! At first I thought I was starting to feel sick again, but it didn’t feel so bad after I took off the headset. I guess the only thing is, it would have been more enjoyable if it were more realistic and also the field of view of this headset were better. I think I’d feel more immersed then! I’m still not sure whether I’d buy my own headset, but it was fun to try out again.”

Sam, Contents Marketing Assistant

App tried: ‘Dino Land VR – Virtual Tour
Before
“I tried VR once at a startup event around two years ago, and was pretty disappointed. The game they had was really bad and buggy, and made me skeptical of VR. I wasn’t even really that interested in how it would improve or progress after that.”

Sam

After
“That was entertaining, but I’m still a little bit skeptical about it. It wasn’t bad, and it was actually smoother than I expected though! It was definitely a lot better than when I tried VR for the first time, so that shows that the technology is gradually getting better. The only thing was that even after using it for just five minutes or so my eyes went pretty fuzzy for a bit after taking off the headset.”

Rie, SEO Consultant

App tried: ‘Dino Land VR – Virtual Tour
Before
“I’ve never used VR before! I think the technology seems really interesting and I’ve always wanted to try it, but I’ve never really had the chance to. It definitely seems fun!”

Rie

After
“Oh, that was great! It really felt like I went to a different world. It was fun, but it doesn’t really seem like something I’d do everyday – maybe just sometimes. I’m not sure if that warrants buying a VR headset for myself, but I’m really interested to try out a variety of different apps. The app I tried now was more like a tour, so I’d like to try some apps that I can interact with things as well.”

Blain, Manager

App tried: ‘Beasts of Legend VR
Before
“This is my very first time trying VR. I’ve been meaning to try it for a while, but I hadn’t gotten around to it. I’m curious to see just how immersive it is, but to be honest I’m a little bit skeptical!”

Blain

After
“I was surprised! I actually thought the field of view would be more limiting, like you could only look in restricted directions – you can really look anywhere you like. The way the menu screens are handled was smooth as well, I thought that was quite intuitive. I didn’t really expect 3D audio either, so that was a pleasant surprise too! I’m really interested to try different kinds of apps now, and seeing the direction VR is going in.”
